SPACE (Special-Purpose Agile in Complex Environments) is a methodology consistent with IDEAL framework, aiming to provide a working set of practices that can be applied for product management in the context of enterprise agile commitment in complex environments. It helps in launching, leading, and leveraging product initiatives and managing diverse product portfolio.
SPACE relies much on stable and seasoned agile frameworks by incorporating some of their principles, events, artifacts and roles while bringing its own flavor to the product management protocols. Since then, generally accepted concepts are not covered in detail while those concepts that are introduced or have a special meaning in SPACE are provided with a deeper explanation.
SPACE approach includes following interrelated parts:
- Framework – defines key components (stages, tools, practices, roles) of product management practice
- Protocol – determines responsibility and timing for specific product management activities
- Guide – develops recommendations on how to perform specific product management activities
- Code – proposes ways of approaching product management practice
